In early November as we celebrate the Feasts of All Saints and All Souls and turn back our clocks, we mark the transition into a new season of the year. It is November and Thanksgiving is just two weeks away. The shorter days and longer nights are with us again. Even the Scripture themes of stewardship that we so often hear during this season provide a backdrop for the spirit of “thanks-giving”. And soon it will be Advent and December when we enter again into the fast-paced days of Christmas preparation.
As families await the return of their college students and the gathering of family members around the table, we can find many opportunities to pause and truly thank our God for life’s many blessings. Join us on Thanksgiving morning at 8:30am for our annual Thanksgiving Mass. We gather around the Lord’s table on this special day to thank God for the gift of Jesus Christ in our lives. Celebrate and enjoy “two meals” this Thanksgiving. And if we take time in November for expressing our “thanks” to God and one another, then we are in a much better position to welcome December as the season of “giving”.
