In May the Town of Shrewsbury welcomed a large number of people in need of housing who still remain at the Days Inn. There are several upcoming opportunities for St. Mary parishioners to assist in meeting their basic needs and helping them to celebrate the Christmas season.
THANK YOU to all who donated last weekend to help cover some of the cost for the Christmas Party held on December 15th and to cover the cost of the special soup Haitian women will make for the families to enjoy on January 1st, Haitian Independence Day.
For those who missed the chance to contribute last weekend but would like to, you can pick up a red envelope available near the bulletins this weekend. Please feel free to place your envelopes in the collection basket or drop them off in the sacristy.
While school aged children attend Shrewsbury Public Schools, there are some adults at the hotel who are interested in having a Basic English class so that they can more easily secure employment. Classes can take place at the Days Inn as your schedule permits. THANK YOU to all who responded offering to help so far. We have forwarded your names onto the South Middlesex Opportunity Council, (SMOC), the community-based non-profit organization that is supporting and coordinating the basic needs of the Days Inn residents.
If you are interested in providing English lessons, please reach to Kelly Paulina at the Pastoral Center.
There will also be a need for children's coats, boots and hats for the children attending Shrewsbury schools. More detailed information will follow as we learn the specific needs and sizes.
