Our high school students, Mrs. O'Connor and Father Jose, are expected to arrive back home tomorrow. Over the last week our high school students divided and conquered and were able to work on projects with students from across the country.
Some of our students volunteered at Project Homes to provide critical home repairs and build affordable housing for low-income seniors and disabled residents. They built a wheelchair ramp, cleaned and restored other ramps, and restored yards for residents.
Some worked at Marywood Apartments, which provides independent living for seniors and individuals with physical disabilities. Our students did a lot of cleaning inside and out, as well as helping to restore outdoor benches for residents to enjoy.
Finally, some worked at Rise Against Hunger! This may sound familiar as each year during Lent we partner with them to pack meals. Our students had the opportunity to clean and organize the warehouse and even assisted with a fill!
These projects encouraged students to step out of their comfort zones, fostering personal growth, empathy, and a deeper understanding of social justice.
THANK YOU to all the parishioners who donated to help make this trip possible! We hope to be able to share some of their personal experiences in the coming weeks. Special thanks to Yamila O'Connor for volunteering a week of her time to chaperone with Fr. Jose so our students could have this experience.
