The History of our Outdoor Nativity Today, following the 9:00AM Mass, we will have our annual Blessing of Outdoor Nativity. We hope you join us for this tradition that started 20 years ago. In the fall of 2003, Fr. Dennis O'Brien developed the idea for an outdoor nativity. He coordinated the purchasing of the set and building of the stable.
Through generous donations from several parishioners, it didn't take long for our nativity set to be complete! Each statue was purchased by individuals or families in memory of a loved one.
The original team of parishioners who designed and led the construction of the outdoor stable were Joe Ellis, Dan Deknis, Dan Cobb, John Zybert, Ken Hetzler, Jim Hudson, Jay Barry, and Joe Favulli. Everything needed for our nativity came from parishioners who generously shared their time, talent, and treasure. You will find a special plaque at the Main Street entrance of the church that lists all the donors and donations.
As you can imagine with the wear and tear over the last 20 years, the original manger is now worn out. Mike Howard, who leads the team of volunteers today, has helped us to find a new one. It was delivered and installed yesterday, just in time for the blessing!
We hope you'll join us for the blessing and this special St. Mary tradition.
